Dance Attire and Dress Code Guide
Dress Code for Dance Students
Proper attire is very important for several reasons; teachers can only observe body alignment and correct technique when the clothing worn is NOT BAGGY. Adhering to dress code also prepares dancers to feel mentally ready for dance class.
All dancers must have hair up and out of their faces.
All Precious Petites, and Lil' Cuties students may wear a leotard and tights of their choice. Pink ballet shoes (black for boys) and black tap shoes are required. Boys may wear a t-shirt and jogger style pants or shorts.
Ballet class students must wear a solid colored leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. No sweat pants or baggy cover ups are allowed. Hair is required to be in a bun. Boys are encouraged to wear black ballet shoes and comfortable, form-fitting clothing such as leggings and a t-shirt.
Jazz, Musical Theater, Contemporary and Tap students must wear a tight fitting dance top (for example a fitted tank top or jog bra) with lycra shorts or dance pants, or a leotard, nothing baggy is allowed (including T-shirts and sweatpants). Black tap shoes, tan jazz shoes for classes level 1-3, turning shoes for classes level 4-7. Boys can wear black jazz shoes for class levels 1-3 and comfortable, athletic attire.
Hip Hop students loose fitting clothing is encouraged. Sweat pants, and T-shirts are allowed. Sneakers are a must, preferably not shoes that are worn outside.
Strength and Stretch & Acro students must wear tight fitting clothing and should not wear tights or shoes.
Ballroom students are highly encouraged to wear ballroom shoes. The general ballroom rule is age 11 and under, no heel higher than 1.5”. No baggy clothing, and ballroom skirts and leotards or form fitting tops are encouraged.
Note: Students who routinely do not meet dress code may be asked to sit out during class.
